The Kromer 5250-02 is a tool positioner for supply units weighing 1.1-6.6 lb - a task lamp, a small control pendant or a single-outlet power drop, for example. It is the lightest of the three, for loads a wider-range unit would not hold precisely.

Kromer designed the 5250 for one job: keeping a supply unit - electric power, compressed air, a network connection, water - within easy reach and letting you set its height by hand. You pull it down when you need it, use it, and push it back up when you are done; the cable winds up and the unit sits out of the way, clear of the operator's head and upper body. An integrated friction brake holds whatever height you leave it at, and keeps holding it even when the weight on the cable changes - when something is plugged in or unplugged, for example.

Please read this before you order. A positioner is not a tool balancer and not a tool retractor, and it is not the right product for a hand-held tool you pick up and set down through the shift. Two reasons. The brake works by holding a load, so the moment you lift the load off, there is nothing for it to hold and the cable winds back up. And Kromer's manual is explicit that a load must only be attached or unhooked with the cable fully retracted, because an extended cable can snap back if the load is removed. If you want a tool held weightless where you leave it, you want a balancer. If you want it pulled back out of the way, you want a retractor.

To adjust the braking force, hang your load on the fully retracted cable, then set the brake through the lateral opening in the housing with a 2.5 mm hex key - "+" for more braking force, "-" for less. The unit ships set to maximum braking force, so expect to set it to your own load. Set correctly, the load pulls down easily and stays put anywhere you leave it; if it slips after you let go, increase the braking force. The spring itself only winds the cable up and cannot be adjusted.
